Gordon King Properties Dedication April 2017

Gordon King Properties Work Day and Dedication

Thank you to everyone who came out for the work day at the Gordon King Life Estate and the dedication event! Even though the original schedule of events had been thwarted by the April Fool’s Day snowstorm, the day’s events went smoothly and without a hitch.
Under Joe Sincuk’s gentle guidance, the volunteer team pruned and cleaned up Gordon’s blueberry bushes so that they may provide a bumper crop this year. Lots of irrigation tubing was also pulled out– a project that doesn’t seem to end! It was too windy to burn the brush pile, so that bonfire will be saved for another day.
The dedication event attracted a larger crowd, as community members gathered to honor the land contributed by Gordon King. Representatives from the Conservation Commission and the Rattlesnake Gutter Trust led the ceremony.  A bench constructed by Rocky Adriance and installed inside the covered bridge was dedicated to Gordon’s memory, and a new blueberry bush will be planted to continue the legacy of Gordon’s blueberries. The ceremony was followed by the release of a rehabilitated screech owl by Julie Anne Collier of Wingmasters.
