Leverett Trails Committee — East Leverett Trails Project

Americorps bridge linking the East Leverett Meadow (on the right) with the trail to Cushman Road.
In the fall of 2010, the Leverett Conservation Commission and the Rattlesnake Gutter Trust worked together to prepare a funding proposal to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
Our proposal (which was funded!) was to establish a Trails Committee for the entire town and to focus most of our efforts on developing a network of trails in East Leverett. Funding would be used for bridges linking the western trails (4-H to Teawaddle Hill Road) and the eastern trails (Woodard’s Corner to the East Leverett Meadow and Cushman Road).
We began in the summer by organizing the Leverett Trails Committee which has:
- met regularly to plan trail work and events;
- designed/created trails in the northern half of the East Leverett Trails
- organized many events including a photo contest and poetry workshops to encourage the use of the new trails
